Brayden May selects our matchday 20 team of the week after a stellar round of A-League action.

Eugene Galekovic – Goalkeeper – Adelaide United

The Adelaide skipper was the only shot stopper in the league not to concede in an exciting weekend of A-League action. The Socceroo made a number of key stops as the Reds ended their five-year hoodoo against arch nemesis Melbourne Victory. His leadership skills continue to be a strong focal point behind the Reds resurgence which has seen them rise to third On the table, only two points off top spot.

Jason Geria – Right Back – Melbourne Victory

The youngster continued his good form this season with a solid display against Adelaide United in a game in which his side lost 1-0 at home. His return to the Victory line-up following Olyroo duty has been a major positive for the Victory. Geria was strong with his overlapping runs going forward proving no matter who is playing him front of him, he adjusts to him team mate’s play style quickly.

Matt Jurman – Central Defence – Sydney FC

Perhaps the Sky Blues’ best player, Jurman was pivotal in a fiery Sydney derby which saw both teams leave with a point. Jurman was involved in a heated confrontation with Western Sydney goalkeeper Liam Reddy. The 26-year-old was a major factor in his side not conceding a second goal as he was the main man in defence in arguably the club’s biggest game of the season considering their recent form.

Dylan McGowan – Central Defence – Adelaide United

McGowan alongside Jordan Elsey produced an outstanding defensive performance as his side grabbed three points away from home on Friday night. Tasked with marking the ever dangerous Besart Berisha, the 24-year-old did a superb job stemming the influence of the Albanian in a standout performance. The defender did not allow Berisha any time or space on the ball making his presence known on every occasion.

Josh Risdon – Left Back – Perth Glory

Forced to play out of position due to an injury to Marc Warren, the Socceroo did a superb job in the most exciting game of the season as Perth won 6-3 against the Brisbane Roar. The stand-in skipper – wearing the arm band for the seventh time this season – was a constant threat as the Glory drove forward in search of more goals and grabbed himself an assist to cap off his performance.

Dario Vidosic – Central Midfield – Western Sydney Wanderers

The former-Adelaide United midfielder stood tall when his side needed him most, as he grabbed their lone goal for the game in the draw with Sydney FC. Vidosic often found himself as the link between attack and defence for his side as he looked to get the game in the Wanderers’ favour in the second half. He had much more of an impact early on where his passing ability was on full display.

Aaron Mooy – Central Midfield – Melbourne City

The A-League’s standout player was at it again as Melbourne City came from behind to claim a 4-1 win against the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday afternoon. The Socceroo continued his red-hot form as he grabbed a brace with the highlight a 100th minute stunning free kick. Mooy also got his team mates involved with yet another assist as City stormed home in the final 45 minutes.

Diego Castro – Central Midfield – Perth Glory

When this man is in full flow he is amongst the best players’ in the league and this is exactly the type of form the Spaniard produced on Saturday night. His talent has been on full show in recent weeks and fans are beginning to see why he is so highly rated by the Glory. Castro linked up well with Andy Keogh throughout the night grabbing himself an assist to go along with a solid performance.

Hamish Watson – Right Wing – Wellington Phoenix

Watson was enjoying an outstanding performance against the Jets before a brain fade saw the winger see red and sent to the sheds for an early shower. The youngster was at his best during the first half as his grabbed himself a brace to give his side a 2-1 lead heading into half time. The winger showed true forward’s instinct for both goals as he positioned himself excellently.

Morten Nordstrand – Left Wing – Newcastle Jets

The January acquisition was the key as the Jets grabbed all three points at Hunter Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Danish winger continued his impressive start to his A-League career with a brace, scoring his first goal for the club in the process. The 32-year-old took both goals well, finishing neatly into the back of the net on each occasion. With this type of form, the Jets may push for an unlikely finals berth.

Andy Keogh – Striker – Perth Glory

Ever since his return to the club Perth have been on fire and they continued their good form with a 6-3 romp over the Roar who entered the weekend at the top of the table. The Glory’s number nine has kicked on from where he left off last season as he grabbed himself a goal and an assist in one of the most exciting A-League games in recent memory.
