Newcastle Jets

Mark Birighitti – 7.5: Saved Maclaren’s penalty but unluckily conceded from his second effort. Made a stunning save to deny Lustica a probable winner. Man of the match.

Jason Hoffman – 4.5: Ended up being pinned back much of the time but may some promising forays forward late-on. North found space to score on his flank.

Daniel Mullen – 6.5: Had to be solid alongside Boogaard and worked hard to stay in shape. Reasonable night.

Nigel Boogaard – 6.5: Decent shift from the skipper but won’t be pleased with conceding two. He and Mullen were quite disciplined despite sitting deep.

Nick Cowburn – 4.5: Walked a tightrope by making contact with Borello in the box, and paid the price. A last-ditch challenge on Borello at the start of the second period was vastly different, goal-saving even.

Steven Ugarkovic – 5.5: He and Poljak had their work cut out.

A-League – What We Learned – Brisbane Roar 2 Newcastle Jets 2

Mateo Poljak – 6.5: Was a constant in midfield but needlessly picked up a booking and, at that, a suspension. Did some good defensive scrambling and hit the post with a curling effort.

Mitch Cooper – 7: Scored his first goal for Newcastle by heading home an excellent cross from Trifunovic. Replaced by Nordstrand at half time.

Enver Alivodic – 6.5: Teed up the well positioned Cooper with an excellent delivery from the right for the equaliser. However, a desperate lunge resulted in the concession of the Roar’s second.

Leonardo – 7: Saw plenty of the ball and kept the Roar midfield accountable.

Milos Trifunovic – 6.5: Calmly tucked away the mind-boggling penalty given away by Brown.

Substitutes

Morten Nordstrand – 6: Appears to be a good get for the Jets. Looked forwards whenever he received possession.

Ben Kantarovski – 5: Made a near-calamitous error late on but redeemed the situation with an excellent tackle.

Lachlan Jackson – 3.5: Involved in the same incident as Kantarovski.
