Who could forget Martin Tyler’s famous call of that famous goal?
It was one of the most thrilling title race climaxes in recent memory, but one that Manchester City looked all but out of. As Manchester United claimed a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light simultaneous to their city rivals’ battle with QPR, they thought they had done enough to seal another premiership.
But a late City surge would see the season turned on its head, in an instant, at the death. Trailing 2-1, Edin Dzeko equalised for the Citizens at the beginning of stoppage time, a point at which those clad in sky blue in the stands had already begun leaving the stadium in tears.
Then, bedlam. Sergio Aguero latched onto a Mario Balotelli pass, emphatically smashing his strike into the net as the Etihad went into delirium. 3-2, and Manchester City went top of the table on goal difference, ending a 44-year title drought as the noisy neighbours announced their arrival as an English football powerhouse.
And no Martin, we will probably never see a final day cliffhanger like that ever again.
