Newcastle Jets manager Phil Stubbins is confident he will remain at the club next season despite a poor run of results which included a 2-0 loss to Perth Glory last night.

For the second week in a row he watched his side create enough chances to win the game but failed to get on the scoresheet. Andrew Hoole, Enver Alivodic and Mitchell Cooper all missed guilt-edged chances throughout the match as they were unable to fully crack the strong Perth defence.

Stubbins has only won two games in 24 this season, but despite criticism and protests by Newcastle fans, the Englishmen says he still has time and hope that he can rebuild the team.

“I’ve got a two-year-deal and I’ll be doing everything I can to service the needs of that deal in the right way.

“We’ve had five years of struggle at the club, but when we get ourselves a squad put together for next season we’ll see a different Newcastle Jets take the field,” Stubbins said.

Newcastle fans have called for the head coach to be sacked on social media and through chants at games, but went to the next level when a banner was placed on half-way as the sides returned from the half-time break.

The banner read “Enough failure, lies and arrogance. 10,000 fans demand the muppet gone”. It was later taken down by security.

The former Adelaide assistant said taking that kind of criticism was part of the job and something that he has become accustomed to.

“The fans are obviously disgruntled and disappointed. They’re entitled to do what they feel is right from their point of view. It’s not really in support of the club but as the head coach the anger is going to towards that person (at the front of it) which is myself”.

The 52-year-old said he hopes to build on the positive performances that his side has produced in recent weeks to create a team that Newcastle can be proud of.

“We look forward to having the opportunity to gather ourselves and rebuild in such a way that we’re representing Newcastle and the Hunter region in a better fashion”.

With his own club facing pressure from the FFA over alleged breaches to the salary cap, Kenny Lowe played down the allegations.

“We’re not bothered by that… Tony Sage is a very sensible guy, we’ll let the FFA come to a conclusion and everyone will have party one way or the other. But we’ve just got to get on with that we do and we’ve got a great chance to win this.”
