9 – No Glory: Perth booted from A-League finals in salary cap rort

For only the second time since the collapse of the old NSL, Perth Glory looked set for a serious title challenge in the A-League. The club hovered at or around top spot for almost the entire 2014-15 season, boasting prolific Irish striker Andy Keogh.

Then, it all unraveled in an instant.

The club was found to have exceeded the salary cap, with Keogh a central figure in that.

The breach totaled a staggering $400,000 over a number of seasons, with breaches reported to have grown by the year.

Payments were found to have been made into third party bank accounts with costs such as travel and vehicle expenses unaccounted for.

The scandal continued to be detrimental to the Glory in the offseason as several key players including Keogh, Danny Vukovic and Scott Jamieson, just to name a few, departed.
