Aaron Mooy IS the best player in the league

If there was any doubt over it, this performance confirmed it. In a week where he became a father for the first time, Mooy improved his week even more. He supplied the cross for Paartalu’s goal, before twisting, turning and setting up Chapman for City’s second. This was inside the first 20 minutes. He then threw in a slaloming run past three Glory defenders which reduced Brenton Speed and Andy Harper in the Fox Sports commentary box to the kind of gidyness Bruce McAvaney reserves for Cyril Rioli during the AFL season. Mooy spent the rest of the half firing beautiful passes, including one which ended in Fornoroli findig the net. It was much of the same in the second-half, as he dominated the midfield and even converted a penatly. It is clear Mooy is too good for this league, so enjoy him while you can, A-League fans: expect him to be gone by January if he keeps this form up.

Van ‘t Schip is not sinking just yet

After assembling a fantastic squad in the offseason, one can bet Melbourne City would have been disappointed with their start to the season. Heading into the game, there would have been plenty of concerns around the club sitting in seventh place in the ladder. There were many around the league who believed another disappointing result could spell the end for John van ‘t Ship, who has come in for much criticism during his time at helm of Melbourne City. Any grievances were washed away in emphatic style as they mercilessly exploited Glory’s inexeprienced and injury-hit defence. As Mooy opened up Perth like presents on Christmas Day, it not only won three points, but also relaxed his manager, giving him some much needed security.
