Reds continue to leak goals

Adelaide again failed to keep a clean sheet after Paartalu scored from Mooy’s near post corner. After yielding another three, United have now conceded 11 goals in five matches, which is the worst record in the A-League. That of course is a major concern for a side that has struggled to score so far this season. On a number of occasions the Reds were extremely open defensively as Mooy managed to thread immaculate through balls through centre-backs Osama Malik and Dylan McGowan with regularity to find the likes of David Williams and Stefan Mauk. After the interval Fornaroli had plenty of time and space to score his two goals with the marking virtually non-existent by the back four of Adelaide.

Aaron Mooy the best player in the A-League?

The 25-year-old once again displayed his amazing ability on the ball as he was involved in two of Melbourne’s goals. The Socceroo assisted Paartalu with a well taken corner which put the visitors in front inside 10 minutes. However, he then stamped his authority on the match with an outrageous strike from distance, as his effort cannoned off underneath the crossbar to silence a very partisan Adelaide crowd. Following yet another impressive outing it begs the question is he the A-League’s best player in the competition. If the former Wanderer maintains this sort of form, it would not be a surprise if the midfielder was to move abroad at the end of the season.

Adelaide’s season goes from bad to worse

Aforementioned, the Reds remain winless this campaign as the pressure mounts on Amor. It is now five games without a victory which means United are bottom of the table and look to have run out of ideas. While they again showed they had improved in an attacking sense, creating a plethora of chances, the lack of stability in defence is a real issue that must be quickly addressed. As alluded to previously, the concession of goals continues to hold Adelaide back as their campaign is now in tatters and despite being in the initial stages of the year a top six berth appears unlikely.
