Napoli defence looked average again
Even after their last two matches, in both of which the defence kept a clean sheet, Napoli have retreated back to looking very average at the back. On most of the attacks there has been lack of positioning and errors at the back, causing Maurizio Sarri to continually pull his hair out. Having the same defence from the weekend’s domination of Lazio has made little difference to the soundness of the unit, looking almost completely different with little communication between each player. Although keeping a clean sheet in the end, they still looked very poor defensively. It was just that Carpi did not make them pay in the final third.

Napoli’s team changes were not successful
In this match, the coach opted to play Mirko Valdifiori over in-form Jorginho, an interesting choice to say the least. Jorginho has been key to a lot of Napoli play over the past two matches and was unlucky to miss out on a starting position, although he may have been rested from the starting line-up following a busy schedule list. Another notable change from the two 5-0 successes in a row was Dries Mertens’ inclusion, particularly after his Europa League form, although his first-half performance did not show any signs of fatigue. Although Jorginho came on after 60 minutes, it meant very little in the end with the match ending in a stalemate.
#Napoli punched & punched but never landed any!! 20 shots, 4 on target with 72% possession but @carpifc1909 hold on 0-0 at FT. #CarpiNapoli
