Outside90’s Yannick Forde discusses the big issues to emerge from matchday seven of the English Premier League.

Manchester City capitulates against Spurs

The predictions of how this City squad was going to cruise to the title has been wildly been exaggerated. Despite the fact that the team has been reinvigorated and freshened up by new signings, some similar problems from last year continue to plague it. This team’s fortitude and resilience must now be questioned as it continues to struggle in the face of adversity. Although City were unfortunate with the two line-ball offside decisions against them after a touch-and-go offside goal of their own through Kevin De Bruyne, they could have had three or four by then had they taken their chances. Willy Caballero was poor throughout and Spurs capitalised on his indecisiveness with Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld, amongst others, taking advantage. Sides cannot play as well as this and lose. Do not let the controversial decisions fool you. Spurs deserved this.

Spurs fortunate, yet impressive against City

What were Spurs doing? Obviously not reading the script. From the outset, it was clear the football gods were watching over them. Hugo Lloris was in inspired form, keeping the score down to one after De Bruyne’s strike stood. Following Eric Dier’s goal right before half time, Spurs smelled blood. They benefitted from City’s inability to take their chances and poor keeping from Caballero to add three more, albeit in controversial circumstances.
