Arsenal have no one but themselves to blame

After Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to West Brom away from home, followed by Liverpool’s 4-1 demolition of Manchester City, Gunners fans would have been left ruing the great opportunity their side missed to go top of the table. It is an opportunity Arsenal have missed all too frequently and could yet again derail their title bid. This season is perhaps the best shot Arsenal have had at the title for years given Chelsea’s malaise, but this result depicted why that is unlikely to happen. Against a West Brom side that is by no means flashy, Arsene Wenger’s team took the lead but saw its profligacy in front of goal backfire. In the space of five minutes, the Londoners had conceded two goals from just one shot on target, such was the home team’s inferiority. With a mus-win Champions League game on the horizon, these are tough times for Wenger and his men.

Everton demolish limp Aston Villa

After being held prior to the international break against West Ham, Everton got back to winning ways with an impressive win over basement boys Aston Villa. The performance had shades of their 6-2 win over Sunderland in their last home game and the same players performed admirably. From the early stages, it was evident that the likes of Ross Barkley, Romelu Lukaku and Gerard Deulofeu were in the mood and their superiority eventually told when Barkley put the Toffees ahead in the 17th minute. He scored again in between two Lukaku strikes with Deulofeu again involved, with help from a poor Villa defence. Roberto Martinez will be particularly pleased at the form of his young trio right now and they were again exhilarating. Bournemouth will have their work cut out next week.
