The Manchester derby ended in a rather unexpected and slightly disappointing goalless draw at Old Trafford overnight.

The two rivals shared the spoils on a day that only the defenders would be proud of. Both backlines were top notch for all of the 90 minutes and made it incredibly difficult for the opposition to generate any chances on goal. The draw means that City retained top spot in the league, level on points with Arsenal. United on the other hand, dropped down to fourth spot as West Ham’s convincing win over Chelsea lifted them over the Red Devils on goal difference.

While United looked like the more menacing team in attack, the Sky Blues were happy just to play on the counter. The closest that any of the team’s came to scoring was when substitute Jesse Lingard’s flick beat Joe Hart to cannon of the crossbar. The England shot-stopper must be given special mention as he managed to pull off some brilliant saves to keep the score deadlocked.
