Adelaide United has officially announced the signing of  midfielder Iacopo La Rocca on a two-year contract from the Western Sydney.

The 31-year-old spent three seasons with the Wanderers, after the midfield-enforcer was released by the club in May, before deciding to call Adelaide his home for the next two years.

Speaking after his move to the City of Churches, the former Pro Vercelli man stated it was an easy choice to join the Coopers Stadium oufit, once United showed genuine interest for his signature.

“I was very happy to receive the phone call from [CEO] Michael Petrillo and coach Josep Gombau,” La Rocca said.

“I decided to sign because Adelaide showed they really wanted me and I am very happy to sign for one of the strongest clubs in Australia and to be part of this group of players.”

La Rocca, who won last year’s Asian Champions League with WSW, also admitted United’s style of football was another contributing factor in convincing him to join.

“Everyone knows Adelaide plays the best football in Australia and I can’t wait to be a part of this style, but it’s up to me to prove myself and earn my spot in the team,” La Rocca continued.

Adelaide United boss Josep Gombau also believes the combative midfielder will bring a new aspect to the squad.

“He’s a proven winner and can also play in different positions. He brings a different dimension to our squad, which is something we were looking for,” Gombau said.

The experienced campaigner now completes Adelaide’s foreign quota of five international players, as the Italian has filled the void of outgoing Spanish forward Miguel Palanca.

La Rocca will link up with his new teammates when the Reds begin pre-season for the forthcoming campaign on July sixth.

The Italian footballer accumulated 77 appearances in all competitions for the Wanderers, scoring eight goals in the process.
