The gang had the pleasure of speaking to Wellington Phoenix defender Ben Sigmund on the Daily Football Show.

Fresh off the news earlier in the week with the FFA rejecting the club’s proposal for a 10-year license extension, Sigmund spoke openly and refreshingly about the club’s future.

With all nine other A-League clubs having 10 year licenses in place, the Phoenix demanded the same but it is believed poor tv ratings and crowds have forced a re-think by the FFA to consider bringing in a third Sydney team at the NZ club’s expense.

A fan favourite at the Phoenix since joining the club in 2008, Sigmund said the future of professional football in New Zealand is on life support following the decision of the FFA.

Nevertheless, the 34-year-old is confident the club will come to an agreement with the FFA and that the ‘Nix’ would be sticking around for the long-term.

The Wellington Phoenix faced a trip to Melbourne on Monday night with the annual Cup-eve taking place between the Phoenix and the Victory.
