A rare blunder from Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy gave Manchester City a late winner at the Etihad on Saturday.

Norwich were coming off the back of three straight Premier League losses and with only one win in ten attempts at the Etihad, Alex Neil’s men had a massive task on their hands to turn their form around.

Manchester City created plenty of chances in the first half but failed to find a way through, as the two sides went into the break level.

Ruddy, considered one of the most underrated goalkeepers in the Premier League, could do little to stop a powerful header from Nicolas Otamendi as Norwich’s resistance was finally broken.

Seven minutes from time, Robbie Brady’s cross looked to be gobbled up by Joe Hart, who incredibly dropped the ball and saw it turned home from close range by Cameron Jerome.

It looked as though Hart would be claiming the dreaded ‘Villain of the Week’ award, as the Canaries looked set on snatching an impressive point away from home.

But three minutes from time a Jesus Navas cross was flapped at by Ruddy, who then appeared to foul Fernandino, before Raheem Sterling’s goal-bound shot was handled by Russell Martin.

Martin received a red card as Yaya Toure stepped up to the spot. Ruddy guessed correctly, but the Norwich shot-stopper couldn’t get a hand to it as Toure gave the home side a late winner.

Sterling won his side another penalty, but Aleksander Kolarov failed to convert as Manchester City settled for a 2-1 win.

The loss handed Norwich their fourth Premier League loss in a row, who still remain two points outside the relegation zone.

He is often one of Norwich’s most reliable players, but for his calamitous error, the Englishman will claim the title of ‘Villain of the Week.’
