Valencia have parted ways with coach Gary Neville after just four months at the Mestalla Stadium.

Per a statement from the club’s official website. they wish Neville the best and thank the English football legend for his time in La Liga.

“After careful consideration, the club have decided to make a change with the best interests of the Valencia CF moving forward this season. We thank Gary for his work at Valencia and wish him the best in the future.”

The 41-year-old joined Valencia in December of 2015, leaving his job as a pundit on Sky Sports to take charge of Los Che.

The team always struggled under the tutelage of Neville and his brother/assistant coach Phil, winning only three of their 16 league games of which he was at the helm.

However, he did take the team to the quarter-finals of the Europa League, before being ousted by fellow Spanish side Athletic Bilbao and the semi-finals of the Copa Del Rey, in which his side was demolished by Barcelona.

Valencia never truly convinced under Neville, as although he was brought in to provide stability for a club already in free fall, he did anything but. At no point did it seem as if his teachings were being correctly translated to his players and thus he was removed from the role.

Neville leaves Valencia with the club in 14th on the table, just six points above the relegation zone.

Pako Ayestaran is set to take control for the remainder of the season.
