Lionel Messi made a stunning return to international football just two months after he appeared to have called it quits on his Argentinean career.

Messi scored a deflected long-range strike minutes before half-time, after he bamboozled four players in the process to work space for the shot.

It was an amazing night for the diminutive playmaker, who was unplayable at times and his solitary goal earned Argentina a 1-0 win against Uruguay in the first match of their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Barcelona superstar missed a vital penalty kick on June 27, as Argentina subsequently lost 4-2 to Chile in a penalty-shoot in the Copa America final.

Speaking after the match, a distraught Messi, left the mixed zone stunned when he indicated he would retire from international football.

“In the locker room I thought that the national team is not for me, it’s what I feel right now,” Messi revealed at the time.

These words sparked a wild outburst of public conjecture about whether the 29-year-old’s words were legitimate or simply in the ‘heat of the moment’.

Luckily for football fans worldwide, Messi has decided to continue his international career and showcase why he’s arguably the greatest player to ever grace the game.
