Newcastle and Everton had agreed a fee for the Newcastle United midfielder, however the personal terms were not agreed with the player holding out for the opportunity to play Champions League football.
The player reportedly has always preferred the option of playing his football in London and after an initial bid from Spurs of £25m, it now looks like they have matched the valuation of the Merseyside club.
Newcastle were relegated from the Premier League last season and were desperate not to sell one of their prized assets who enjoyed an impressive campaign with France at Euro 2016.

The 27-year-old made his intentions clear at the end of last season to leave the right St James’ Park, after their relegation to the Championship.
