Juventus have defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in a tepid affair at the MCG on Tuesday night.

Juve secured control of proceedings early, establishing a 2-0 lead within the opening 15 minutes. Erik Lamela provided Tottenham with a lifeline in the second half, but the Italians did enough to secure the win.

Who were the best three players on the night?

Miralem Pjanic (Juventus) – He made the move to Juventus to win things, and the Bosnian was instrumental in claiming victory on a cold Tuesday night in Melbourne. A scooped strike from all of 10 yards was the only blotch on an impressive performance in midfield, while an inch-perfect cross to Mehdi Benatia, teeing up i Bianconeri‘s second goal, was the highlight.

Victor Wanyama (Tottenham Hotspur) – The Spurs debutant stripped Hernanes of possession in midfield, beginning the chain of events which brought about Lamela’s 66th-minute goal. Wanyama held down the Tottenham midfield well and looks right at home under Mauricio Pochettino’s tutelage once more.

Erik Lamela (Tottenham Hotspur) – Introduced at half time, the Argentine was arguably the best player on the pitch thereafter, adding some of the polish and smarts the North London club lacked in the opening 45. Lamela dragged a goal back for Tottenham with a classy finish and came closest to levelling the scores soon after.
