Tim Cahill: I want opponents to fear me

Full of confidence after his match winning goal for the Socceroos, striker Tim Cahill has claimed that opponents are fearful of him on the pitch.

Seemingly content with his role as an impact substitute off the bench for the time being, Cahill says his record should speak for itself.

“Like I said time and time again, whether it’s five minutes or 90 minutes, people know what I can do. That’s what I want to do. I want them [opposition teams] to be fearful of me when I come on,” he said to Fox Sports after the game.

With 48 goals in 92 games for the national team, Cahill has built an impressive resume and based on his recent comments he has no plans to slow down just yet, with his passion for the Socceroos still burning.

“I’m not going sit back, I’m really going to push as hard as I can. This result, every time we put on the jersey, means so much,” he says.

In stifling Middle Eastern heat, Cahill’s cameo proved to be decisive as he scored with his first kick 105 seconds after entering the pitch.

It adds to a list of crucial goals against Asian sides in his national career, dating back to his brace against Japan in 2006.

For now, his focus will turn to Melbourne City as he tries to integrate into his new team.
