Saturday night heats up as Western Sydney travel east to play local rivals Sydney FC in the final derby of the regular season.

Can Sydney claim a Sydney Derby clean sweep?

It’s never been done before, but as the sixth placed Sydney walk out on Saturday night they will be 90 minutes away from picking up a Sydney Derby clean sweep. So far this campaign the Sky Blues have picked up wins thanks to last gasp goals at both Allianz Stadium and Pirtek Stadium. While Sydney were in the better form for their first meeting, they headed to Parramatta desperate for a win – much the same as their circumstances this weekend. Will the Sky Blues continue to rise for derbies and go seven straight undefeated? Or will their poor form see them blow a chance at derby history?

Will ‘fans’ overshadow the match?

The Sydney Derby has grown a reputation as the league’s biggest fixture, particularly when it comes to crowd atmosphere. As players rise to the occasion, fans certainly do too and with the clash once again sold out it would be a shame if the actions of some ‘fans’ and the risk of point sanctions were to overshadow the game. While those who are willing to illegally light flares, ruin stadium infrastructure and in general bring a bad name to the A-League, are certainly not welcome, banter, cheering and jeering in good nature are what has defined this fixture and hopefully they wont be sacrificed thanks to the actions of a small minority.

Sydney plummeting towards bottom four exile.

Although Sydney are facing a potential run of three straight wins in the derby, their form has been the biggest talking point over the past fortnight. Reports of in-fighting, a public scolding for ‘ill-discipline’ and a general discontent from fans have Sydney facing an uphill battle on and off the field this Saturday night. While the side tend to rise for derbies, best exhibited in their incredible 2-1 win back in round 15, their lack of pace, inability to score and recent defensive woes have their backs against the wall at Allianz Stadium. The Sky Blues have to overcome their slump in form sooner rather than later, or they will see themselves drop into the bottom four.
