Outside90 senior editor Joel Fruci looks at five players whose quality and value skyrocketed last season.

Roy Krishna (Wellington Phoenix)

Originally signed as a short-term injury replacement from Auckland City in 2014, Roy Krishna entered the A-League fray as something of an unknown to most followers. What made his task more difficult was that the job description was essentially to fill the boots of one of Wellington and the A-League’s best ever players, Paul Ifill.

The Fijian settled quickly, however, scoring on debut against Melbourne City, or Melbourne Heart in those days. Krishna was rewarded with a new deal and has since gone on to score 10 goals in 34 Phoenix appearances, including nine last season, his first full one with the club.

He is now an integral part of Wellington’s forward setup and remains the sole Fijian to grace the A-League.
