Sydney FC fans are reportedly being outnumbered eight to one as things stand for the opening round Sydney derby at ANZ Stadium.

The club have confirmed less than 5000 tickets have been purchased for the historic clash, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The 13th instalment of the Sydney derby has seen predictions of breaking the 60,000 crowd barrier, which would be the largest attendance at a competitive A-League fixture.

However, there are over 10,000 tickets allocated for the away fans which remain unsold.

“This match is not just for football fans, it is for all sports fans in the region at the biggest venue in NSW,” said a spokesperson for the Wanderers.

“At this stage Wanderers members and fans are outnumbering Sydney FC fans eight to one. This is a fixture that will put not only both clubs, but the entire A-League into focus, it will make history and we are urging all football fans to be a part of it.”

Sydney FC have just over 10,000 members for the upcoming 2016-17 A-League season, while their cross-town rivals have more than 18,000 members.

“We want as many of our fans there as possible, supporting us and backing the team,” said Sydney FC CEO Tony Pignata.

“It would be great to have as much Sky Blue in the stadium as possible, and we’d love to be part of a record-breaking crowd.”

The Sydney derby will kickoff on October 8 at 7.50pm AEST at ANZ Stadium.
