West Bromwich Albion are close to securing the signature of former Liverpool midfielder, Mohamed Sissoko.

The 31-year-old trialled with West Brom over the weekend as the Baggies defeated Delhi Dynamos 1-0 in a charity match.

It looks set to become a real tussle for the services of the Mali international, with Sissoko feeling confident after his trial match with WBA.

“I was really happy to play for 60 minutes and I am confident I can do well here,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s been a long time since I left England. I’ll be here with West Brom this week and we’ll see what happens after that.

“The manager [Tony Pulis] has told me just to come and enjoy it and then we’ll sit down and talk about my future.”

The experienced midfielder has been without a club since leaving Chinese outfit Shanghai Shenua last February.

He spent three years with Liverpool in the middle of last decade, the well-travelled midfielder has also graced the field for Juventus, Paris St Germain (PSG), Fiortentina and Valencia.

With the transfer window now closed, clubs are able to sign unattached players as free agents.
