Sporting Lisbon president Bruno de Carvalho has willed former star Cristiano Ronaldo to consider a return to his boyhood club.

Ahead of Sporting’s midweek trip to face Real Madrid in the Champions League, their president revealed to Marca at how Ronaldo has left a lasting impact on the Portuguese club since his departure for Manchester United in 2003.

Although Ronaldo has claimed on multiple occasions that he endeavours to retire at Madrid, de Carvalho insists there is a possibility that the two time Ballon D’or winner could make an emotional return to the place his decorated career began.

“Yes, without a doubt, I would love for Ronaldo to end his career here, at home. He represents a lot for us and it would be beautiful if he could end his career here,” he said.

“We are making a great effort for certain players to return to the club. We already did that with Nani and we will see that many times.”

Despite the Portuguese outfit entering this week’s clash at the Bernabeu as heavy underdogs, de Carvalho will cherish the occasion.

“It’s going to be special to come up against him just as it’s going to be special for him, as was seen in Ronaldo’s face when he found out in the draw that he would face us,” he said.

“We are playing against our boy and he is playing against the team where he formed himself as a player. It’s going to be beautiful.

“He will play a great game against us and we will of course have to try to limit him.”
