Sony Computer Entertainment Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Michael Ephraim has flagged PlayStation’s interest in working with Optus to provide the English Premier League on their platform.

Optus has come out in the last week and announced a raft of ways that they will be providing the EPL to their customers, via online streaming, Fetch TV and on Free-To-Air with SBS taking one game a week.

Ephraim told the Daily Football Show that Optus needs more distribution to make their gigantic investment worth while.

“Optus has to captialise on their big investment of $60 million a year for three years and they need reach. If they want reach, PlayStation definitely can give them that,” he said.

“Between PS3 and PS4 we have a couple of million devices (in Australia) that people at home can access content.

“I think there will be interest on their part to expand out beyond Fetch and the mobile space.

“It would make sense, we are definitely looking at different options of sports content and if you look to out American colleagues, the sports content on PlayStation US is prolific. So anything is possible.”
