Fernando Torres going from Atletico hero to zero overnight has provided solid entertainment on social media, with other highlights including Zlatan being Zlatan, and Rio Ferdinand making an outlandish prediction.
Torres scored an absolutely cracking first-time strike that nutmegged Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André Ter Stegen, but was subsequently sent off in the first-half of the Champions League quarter-final clash after two bookable offences. His dismissal incensed Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, who furiously protested the decision on the sidelines. Barcelona eventually went on to win the first-leg 2-1, with Luis Suarez netting a double to give his side the advantage in the tie.

Suarez himself was perhaps lucky to still be on the pitch though, with the referee missing a crude challenge moments before Torres was given his marching orders.
A closer look at the @LuisSuarez9 kick. Is he lucky to have stayed on to score his double? #FCBAtleti #UCL 2-1 https://t.co/2ggXm6LToG

What the hell was Torres thinking of? Barca given a lifeline. Suarez lucky not to be sent off moments earlier.

Premier League veteran Ferdinand made a bold claim that would eventually prove to be rather humorous, when he predicted that Barcelona would not manage to get on the scoresheet.
#Barca won’t score here tonight…. Simeone has drilled his team as a defensive unit superbly.

Liverpool fans certainly did not miss the opportunity to poke fun at Torres either, as the stark contrast in fortunes between their two former strikers was highlighted.
Torres scores one, gets off early. Suarez steps up, outdoes him. Somehow seems familiar #LFC#UCL#BarcaAtleti

Paris Saint-Germain’s Brazilian defender Thiago Silva also unearthed a brilliant tale about Zlatan Ibrahimovic this week from their time together at AC Milan. You do not mess with the Zlatan.
Typical @Ibra_official ! Class story of #Ibrahimovic and #Gattuso at @acmilan, Gattuso didnt scare #Zlatan#Legendspic.twitter.com/n7u1dLyWDv

And finally, Atletico Madrid midfielder Gabi copped a classic blow which evoked memories of The Simpsons’ Hans Moleman…
