Had they not played friendlies against Greece and England in May/June, it would have been highly likely the Socceroos would be ranked inside the top 40 and the highest Asian nation.

It is the Socceroos’ highest ranking since 2012 when the side was ranked 36 in the World.

The Socceroos beat Iraq 2-0 in Perth two weeks ago and followed that up with a 1-0 win over Abu UAE in Abu Dhabi.

Australia’s next opponents in qualifying for Russia 2018 next month are Saudi Arabia (52nd) and Japan (56).

Iran are the top ranked nation in Asia (37th).

Argentina remain the world’s top ranked side, followed by Belgium and Germany.
