Slaven Bilic is delighted that Dimitri Payet elected to stay at West Ham, with his team’s hopes resting on the talismanic Frenchman.

The 29-year-old had a sensational 2015-16 with the Hammers, culminating in Europa League qualification through his creative talents and deadly free-kicks.

The playmaker was vital to his team’s style on the pitch, scoring an impressive nine goals and contributing 13 assists. It was imperative he stayed with the club for this season.

“It is key for us if he can produce his best form again. He has the qualities that the best players have and can help change a game. They are influencing their teammates and opponents,” Bilic told the club’s official website.

“He makes the team play better and everyone around him is benefiting. The team recognised that last season.”

Also vital to France’s run to the Euro 2016 final, the fan favourite was rested as West Ham crashed out of the Europa League qualifiers.

The Hammers have also started their Premier League campaign slowly after their key talent was injured in a cameo appearance against Chelsea on the opening day.

The West Ham manager will be hoping for a swift return from Payet, as the Hammers host Watford on the weekend.
