Inter Milan took on Juventus at the San Siro overnight in a hotly contested clash ending in a scoreless draw.

Both sides had plenty of opportunities to break the deadlock, with Marcelo Brozovic coming closest for Inter with a wicked ball that Gianluigi Buffon tipped onto the bar. Sami Khedira came closest for Juventus, also hitting the bar from close-range after Alvaro Morata’s pass found him with time and space where he should have done better. 79,154 fans were in attendance at the San Siro which has brought in €3,740,051 from ticket sales, a new Serie A record.

Both sides respect each other

The first half saw Inter dominate possession and create the majority of chances with Juventus sitting back, soaking up pressure and trying to play dangerously on the counter-attack. Allegri’s men were far too cautious and paid Inter more respect than they probably deserved, considering they tend to play better when in possession. In the second half, the Bianconeri took complete control of the game and were the better side. The game ended with Juventus having 15 shot to eight, nine corners to four and four shots on target versus two, mainly due to the dominant second stanza.

Inter need to score more goals

While they sit third in Serie A, Inter have only scored eight goals this season, only the 13th-best in Serie A in that regard. It is evident they need to start scoring if they are to challenge for the Scudetto as their ability to grind out a result makes goals all the more valuable. An attacking pairing of Mauro Icardi and Stefan Jovetic should be doing much better and Roberto Mancini will surely make a point of this to his players as they head into next weekend’s clash with Palermo, who have conceded 12 goals this season, one of the highest tallies in Serie A.

Paul Pogba is really struggling

Whether it is the pressure of the number 10, the fact he has played in every game this season or something down to Allegri’s tactics, Paul Pogba has struggled to replicate the form of his previous three seasons at Juventus. Perhaps the best option for Allegri would be to rest Il Polpo for the club’s home tie with Borussia Moenchengladbach this week in order to have him fit and firing for the next set of games. Pogba also picked up an ankle injury on international break for France, adding to why a rest could be vital for a future return to form for a player we all know could be giving so much more.
