The La Liga giants had their appeals against a transfer ban rejected by FIFA meaning the clubs can not sign players in the next two transfer windows.

The news was announced on the official website of FIFA as both clubs were found in violation of the regulations in regard to the transfer of minors.

‘As such, both clubs are to serve a transfer ban that prevents them from registering any players at national and international level for the next two complete and consecutive registration periods. The transfer ban applies to each club as a whole, with the exception of the women’s, futsal and beach soccer teams – and does not prevent the release of players.’

Real Madrid have officially announced their decision to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The transfer ban is not expected to be enforced until after the January transfer window.

Barcelona received a similar ban last year, with the club able to push back the start of their ban due to the lengthy appeals process.

The Catalans did make the signing of Arda Turan during this time, although he was not allowed to play until the ban was completed six months later.
