Premier League titans Chelsea set to announce June friendly match against Sydney FC

Australia’s football off-season may be about to add another historic date to the winter calendar, with English giants Chelsea FC now set for an encounter against Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium in June.

Reports indicate that the match has been agreed to in principle terms, with the formal announcement to be made after the weekend.

Needing just two more wins to put the Premier League title beyond doubt, a June 2nd date with the Sky Blues could come at a monumental time for Chelsea themselves, almost certainly days after being crowned domestic champions for the fifth time.

It also means that it will be the last game that the team has together before disbanding for time-off or international duty, with a number of Chelsea names likely to feature in Euro 2016 qualifiers and the Copa America tournament both starting mid-June.

Yet, at the moment defender Gary Cahill is the only first team player that can likely be ruled out, a tantalising prospect for Blues supporters, who could see the likes of John Terry, Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and Didier Drogba – not to mention the ‘Special One’ himself, Jose Mourinho.

The deal with the London giants adds to an already casino online stellar off-season schedule of international teams touring Australia – joining the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Liverpool, Villareal, Roma and cross-town rivals Tottenham, who also face Graham Arnold’s men just days earlier on the 30th of May.

Sydney, however, could be bringing championship credentials of their own into the games, one of the favourites to feature in the A-League Grand Final come May.

If official, it will mark the first occasion Chelsea have set foot in Australia since an eleven game tour 1965.
