In our weekly player comparison A-League infographics we take a look at two midfield maestros who are likely to clash in Sunday’s Round 1 clash between the Wellington Phoenix and Newcastle Jets.
Albert Riera failed to score in the 2014/2015 season after starting the majority of games for the Phoenix.
What the Spaniard does possess is the ability to control the tempo of the game. Nailing 84% of all his passes, Riera will be pivotal in his side’s ball potential.
In a defensive capacity, Riera is a decent ball-winner with 48% of his average duels won.
On the flip side, former-Wanderer, Mateo Poljak will turn out for his second season as a Jet.
In 19 appearances last season, Poljak managed just one goal and similarly to Riera created 12 chances for his teammates.
The Phoenix look likely, at home, to come away with the win on Sunday after winning 15 games of the 25 contested matches.
