Vincent Janssen has been a Lilywhite barely two weeks, but the Dutch prodigy believes he is making a smooth transition into life at Tottenham.

Spurs announced Janssen’s £17 million signing from AZ Alkmaar on 12 July, the club where he scored a whopping 27 goals in 34 matches in just one season, and the striker made his debut in his new side’s 2-1 International Champions Cup defeat at the hands of Juventus at the MCG on Tuesday evening. Donning the number nine, Janssen started the match up front but could not find the back of the net on his maiden appearance.

Having been awarded this year’s Johan Cruyff Trophy recognising the Dutch talent of the year, Spurs fans will be desperate for Janssen to offer centre-forward mainstay Harry Kane relief as well as an alternative in the front third.

Miralem Pjanic: I’m ‘very happy’ and we’ll do ‘great things’ this season

According to Janssen, he is ready for the Premier League stage and to not only relieve Kane, but compete with him.

“I’m settled, everything is okay and I’ve been here for two weeks now,” he said.

“I’m feeling good. The training is different when you compare it with Holland, it is much tougher, of course but I’m getting used to it.

“It’s a big difference (between the Netherlands and England, the level is much higher. But you do everything step by step and for me, it has gone very fast going from the second division in Holland to 14 months later, playing against Juve.

“It’s a big difference, but it’s nice to play these games and I’m getting used to it.”

“I prefer the striker position, I think that is my position.”

Janssen added that despite the defeat, Spurs were happy to return to the swing of competitive football.

“We know it was a tough game, we played against the winner of the Italian league, but we tried what we have to do (against Juventus).

“It didn’t always go well but it’s a friendly, our first serious contest. It’s good to play these games.”
