Melbourne City midfielder Neil Kilkenny says he is looking forward to experiencing a “new way” of playing football.

The midfielder returned to Australia after a long and successful spell in England with the likes of Birmingham City, Leeds United, Bristol City and Preston North End, but has now sought a new challenge with City.

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Football Show on Thursday, Kilkenny detailed his eagerness to experience a more technical style of football in Australia.

“In England, a lot of teams miss out on the middle third,” Kilkenny said.

“I’m just looking forward to a new way of playing football, playing football through the thirds and playing a more technical game.

“I’m really looking forward to it and hopefully (I’ll) get lots of touches in midfield, playing in a good team.

“I think Melbourne City was the right club for me.

“(There’s) a fantastic setup, brought in fantastic players and we’ve had fantastic players here last season.

“I am really looking forward to experiencing another league and another team.”
