Matthieu Delpierre signs new Melbourne Victory deal

Melbourne Victory have announced French defender Matthieu Delpierre has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him at the club throughout the 2015-16 season.

The former VfB Stuttgart captain joined the club at the beginning of the 2014-15 season and has impressed, despite missing a large portion of the season through injury.

Football operations manager Paul Trimboli praised Delpierre’s influence upon announcing the deal.

“Matthieu has been in superb from since his return from injury and is an important player to our style and structure moving forward,” Trimboli said.

“He is a player we have been working hard to retain and the club is delighted we could come to an agreement for another season.”

Delpierre himself expressed his happiness at recommitting to the club.

“Everyone at Melbourne Victory has made me and my family feel so much at home and comfortable here in Melbourne, so I really wanted to stay and continue to play here.”

“The coaches, support staff and administration are all heading in the one direction so the future is very exciting at this club and I want to be part of it.”

The 34-year-old follows in the footsteps of Fahid Ben Khalfallah and youngsters Rashid Mahazi, Connor Pain, Scott Galloway and Jason Geria in penning new contracts with Victory.
