Mario Balotelli’s has always been in the headlines during his career, and following Nice’s 2-1 victory over Lorient, Balotelli was right in the thick of the drama.

On 86 minutes Balotelli curled home the game’s winning goal, the perfect response having been left out of the latest Italian squad, before being booked for removing his shirt during the celebrations.

But just moments later, the 26-year-old was given his marching orders in stoppage time by the referee for moving his head in the direction of Lorient defender Steven Moreira, who was also cautioned for the same incident.

Balotelli has been in fine form in the early stages of his Nice career, netting six goals in five games, with five of those goals coming in just three Ligue 1 appearances.

The result sees Nice move back to the top of the table above AS Monaco and will face Lyon next without Balotelli due to his suspension.

Elsewhere in the league, Paris Saint-Germain returned to form with a 2-0 win over Bordeaux while Monaco smashed Metz 7-0 to keep pace with the early pace setters.
