A double to Danish striker Morten Nordstrand has guided the manager-less Newcastle Jets to a 4-0 pre-season friendly victory over Melbourne City at Morshead Park in Ballarat.

Andrew Nabbout and Kristian Brymora also got on the scoresheet for the visitors against arguably a second or third string Melbourne City outfit.

The Jets picked a strong starting line-up to tackle City, with skipper Nigel Boogaard supported by seasoned A-League players like Nordstrand, Nabbout, Andrew Hoole, Devante Clut, Daniel Mullen and Jason Hoffman.

City on the other-hand were without marquee duo Tim Cahill and Bruno Fornaroli, while Thomas Sorensen, Luke Brattan, Neil Kilkenny, Bruce Kamau, Nick Fitzgerald, Michael Jakobsen, Connor Chapman, Osama Malik and Josh Rose also did not feature in the squad.

Guided by interim-manager Clayton Zane, the Jets got off to the flyer with Nabbout opening the scoring after 16 minutes thanks to some clever work by Hoole, who has impressed so far this pre-season.

A double to Danish import Nordstrand either side of half-time put the result beyond doubt, before youngster Brymora finished off the 4-0 rout with 10 minutes to play.
