Borussia Monchengladbach head coach Lucien Favre resigned from his post late Sunday night, after a horror start to the season in which the club has lost five of five league matches.

In a personal decision, Favre left his post despite talks with the club, who maintained that he still had their full support and saw him as the man to lead them out of the rut of form, according to the club’s website.

“As before, we remained certain that Lucien was the right man for the job and that we’d be able to overcome the difficult situation we face on the park with him in charge,” Max Eberl

Despite the clubs stance, Favre released a personal statement, saying he felt like he was ‘no longer the right coach for the club’, despite the club’s clearly conflicting view.

Favre took over in February of 2011 with Gladbach fighting relegation, and after leading them safely through play-offs, turned the team around magnificently, culminating in a third place finish this past season and Champions League qualification.

With further details expected from the club on Monday, fans are speculating about a replacement, however with a Bundesliga clash ahead of them on Wednesday night, Eberl will need to make a decision soon, in order to turn this team around.
