Juventus delight crowds in the Italian heart of Melbourne

Juventus Football Club continued their Melbourne tour by delighting fans in Carlton on Sunday afternoon with a surprise public appearance featuring star midfielder, Kwadwo Asamoah and club ambassador, David Trezeguet.

Over 600 people descended on Argyle Square, the centrepiece of Melbourne’s iconic Lygon Street, as the Juventus Academy Melbourne showcased their talents, while Juventus mascot, Jay, entertained the crowd.

The stand-in captain for Juventus during their Saturday night loss to Melbourne Victory FC in the Game 1 of the International Champions Cup Australia, presented by Audi, Asamoah was on hand to sign autographs and have his picture taken.

Trezeguet soon followed Asamoah, and expressed that Juventus was delighted to be in Melbourne and happy to see so many fans of the Old Lady showing their colours.

The Juventus Academy Melbourne is a fully funded and supported soccer academy, situated in Melbourne’s western suburbs, in affiliation with Club Italia and Brimbank Stallions FC. The academy hosts over 250 kids from the ages of 8-16, with five specialist coaches employed by the academy.

On Saturday morning, Trezeguet also made the trip out to the academy’s centre to run an exclusive clinic, as part of Juventus’ committed connection to its Australia-based school.

Juventus Academy Melbourne – Soccer President, Anthony Chapman, said the presence of Turin club would make a massive influence on the next way of academy participants coming through their footballing pathway.

“It shows the kids that is something that you can actually aspire to. With the players being here, you actually feel much more inspired and much more together with them,” Chapman said.

“For some of these kids, it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is just a huge thrill for them to meet a legend of the club and meet the players, and really feel a part of the Juventus family.”

Juventus play their second match of the International Champions Cup Australia, presented by Audi this Tuesday night, when they face English Premier League giants, Tottenham Hotspur at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
