Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Loris Karius is set to retain his place in Liverpool’s line-up for their trip to Swansea next weekend, at the expense of Belgian shot-stopper Simon Mignolet.

The German goalkeeper made his first-team debut during Liverpool’s EFL Cup triumph against Derby County last weekend. Karius later made his Premier League debut in the 5-1 win against Hull City on the weekend, and Klopp has confirmed the summer signing will retain his place.

“He’ll play against Swansea again. I’ve already spoken to the goalkeepers and they know it,” Klopp told reporters following the match.

“We had the game at Derby but there were not too many balls [to test him].

“You need to see how a player reacts in games and we don’t have the games in the week.

“We do it on the weekend and we have to make the decision because the goalkeeper is different to the centre-half position, for example.”

Liverpool face Swansea City in Saturday’s early kick-off, before a crucial clash against Manchester United at Anfield after the international break.
