Melbourne City manager John van’t Schip has admitted even he was caught off-guard by Michael Jakobsen’s overhead kick in their FFA Cup quater-final win on Wednesday night.
Part of City’s setup barely two weeks, Jakobsen starred on his competitive debut, kick-starting his side’s 4-1 rout of Western Sydney Wanderers after just two minutes with a brilliant effort from a set piece.
Fellow new boys Bruno Fornaroli, Tim Cahill and Fernando Brandan all got their names on the scoresheet for Dimas Delgado gave the Wanderers a late consolation goal.

The former Aalborg defender, who once upon time marked Carlos Tevez in the UEFA Champions League, was solid at the back thereafter.
Expressing his surprise, van’t Schip praised Jakobsen for what he knew was a cornerstone of his game: defensive organisation.
“We didn’t see that on the internet, so we were surprised when we saw that,” van’t Schip said.
“We thought it was Bruno (Fornaroli).
“But it was Michael, and it was a great goal for him to start with like that on his debut.
“He’s been here a bit more than a week and he’s really adapted himself in a quick way into the group in the training sessions.
“You can see he’s an experienced player, has a good left foot and for us, of course, it’s more important even that he was organising and taking care of the defence.”
