Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak has been spotted at Villa Park on Tuesday, prior to the club’s 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town as his imminent transfer from Crystal Palace to Aston Villa moves into its final stages.

The 32-year-old was stripped of the captaincy at the South London club during the off-season by manager Alan Pardew, and it appears the tough-tackling midfielder will now depart to the Championship.

Socceroos boss Ange Postecoglou has backed Jedinak’s impending arrival, saying his captain will be in a good space mentally for Australia’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers if the move to Villa does come to fruition.

If the former Palace skipper does complete the move, he will be joining a growing band of Australians playing in England’s second tier.

Massimo Luongo (Queens Park Rangers), Aaron Mooy and Jason Davidson (both Huddersfield), Bailey Wright (Preston North End), Jackson Irvine (Burton Albion) and Cameron Elder (Brentford) all currently ply their trade in the Championship.

Jedinak has captained Australia since May 2014 and has made 165 league appearances for Crystal Palace since joining them in 2011, featuring 90 times in the Premier League.
