Scott Jamieson: We understand fans' boycott

Western Sydney Wanderers full-back Scott Jamieson says the players understand why their active fans abandoned the stands in their 2-1 win against Brisbane Roar at the weekend.

Jamieson said the players need the fans back supporting them, but there is an understanding of their reasons behind the movement.

“We need our fans back,” Jamieson said.

“Even listening to Macca (Jamie Maclaren) on the weekend (on Fox Sports’ Shooutout) talking about teams coming to Parramatta and it not being the same atmosphere … that RBB feel is like no other.

“We need them but we also understand they haven’t been treated right and they deserve to stand up and speak up. Hopefully this meeting (between FFA and active support groups) can really try and mend a few things.”

Jamieson added that he believed the movement would be a good thing for the game in the long run and reiterated the importance of active support across the A-League.

The left-back said playing at Pirtek Stadium without the RBB was a “weird” experience.

“It’ll be a really good thing in the long-run because we all realise how important these active members are, how much they bring to the league.

“It was weird. There were times when I could hear team mates from across the pitch. They’re such important cogs to our club.”

The FFA is set to sit down with representatives from all 10 active support groups on Wednesday in a meeting bankrolled by an unnamed third party.

On the pitch, Jamieson’s Western Sydney will be looking for their seventh win in a row on the weekend when they host reigning champions Melbourne Victory at Pirtek Stadium on Saturday night.
