Iceland’s Football Association (KSI) has declined the opportunity to feature on FIFA 17, refusing to sell their image and trademark rights to programmer EA Sports.

EA offered KSI £11,000 to appear on the popular game, but president Geir Thorsteinsson wants to see that offer upped.

“They are the ones buying these rights and they almost want it for free,” Thorsteinsson was quoted as saying by the BBC.

“The performance at the Euros show that we are quite a good team and many would like to play with our team. It’s sad for the players – but the criticism should be towards EA Sports.

“I really feel if we are giving away rights, or offering rights, it has to be proper negotiations and fair fees.

“I didn’t feel that this was done in a fair and open manner.”

Iceland have moved up to 27th in the FIFA rankings after reaching the last eight of Euro 2016, where they famously defeated England at the last 16.

A feature of their story was the chant dubbed the ‘Iceland clap’, which will be on the latest version of the game.
