Perth Glory’s amazing run of form continued after a comprehensive 3-2 win against Melbourne City.
The Glory have won 10 games in their past 11 outings and they are a genuine Championship contender on the evidence of their most recent performance against the team who were table toppers before the clash.
Diego Castro was almost unplayable at times, with his mesmerising dribbling skills and expert passing range.
After a tepid first half the game sprung into life in the second, as Perth began to dominate proceedings. On 55 minutes they opened the scoring after some clumsy defending saw the ball squirm its way across the box and Andy Keogh had the simple task of tapping in from close range.
Glory doubled their advantage through a composed finish from Gyorgy Sandor and just four minutes later the game’s finest moment was provided by Perth’s talismanic Spaniard.
Keogh raced away down the right-hand channel and then released an inch-perfect ball for Castro to strike an incredible first-time volley from the top of the box past a flat-footed Thomas Sorensen.
City responded immediately through a fine solo goal from Bruno Fornaroli and after Glory failed to put the game well and truly to bed, the visitors scored again through 19-year-old Marc Marino to set up a nervy finale.
Here are some of the best reactions from Twitter:
Casual observation …could Castro be 1st player in Australian football to receive an iron ore mine as signing on fee for a club? #PERvMCY
