West Ham recorded a memorable 2-1 victory over Chelsea last night in a game which may have seen the reigning champions beginning to implode.

Mauro Zarate’s half-volley had the Hammers ahead early, although the travelling fans were frustrated by a goal-line clearance and a Cesc Fabregas chance on goal with was pulled back for offside.

Tempers at Upton Park would explode just before halftime when Nemanja Matic was sent-off for a second bookable offence, the ensuing chaos immediately seeing John Terry, Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa given yellow cards, while assistant coach Silvino Louro was dismissed for protesting the decision. The drama continued into the break, however, as Mourinho would reappear in the stands himself, some reports stating he attempted to enter the referee’s room during the interval.

Although a valiant 10-man effort drew the Blues back level through Gary Cahill, the mounting pressure from the hosts saw Andry Carroll nod home the winner in the 79th minute.

Much of the post-match discussion was devoted to Mourinho’s antics during the match and his immediate future at the Chelsea helm following a fifth defeat of the season, while West Ham supporters were overjoyed with their first victory over a team managed by the ‘Special One’ in nine attempts.
