A sensational solo performance from Robbie Kruse has helped Australia to a comfortable 5-1 win over Harry Redknapp’s Jordan, securing progression to the next stage of World Cup qualifying in the AFC.
Kruse’s first of three assists came as he teed up Tim Cahill, who opened the scoring in the 25th minute, aided by some lacklustre defending.
That goal seemed to commence a landslide of late first half scoring, with red-hot Aaron Mooy the next to get in on the act. Kruse played the Melbourne City man into space on the left, and he did the rest, coolly burying the ensuing strike.
The Leverkusen winger’s inch-perfect cross to Cahill effectively ended the match before half time as the teams headed into the dressing rooms at 3-0 in the home side’s favour.
An ugly Jordanian tackle on Kruse threatened to derail the positive headlines, but fortunately the injury-prone attacker was able to carry on. That tackle may have been enough for Ange Postecoglou to put Kruse in cotton wool, replacing him with Nathan Burns and drawing to a close a superb individual performance in the 70th minute.
Those goals aside, Mass Luongo and Tom Rogic both helped secure the 5-0 scoreline with goals of their own.
