The third weekend of the English Premier League highlighted the strengths of title challengers Manchester City and the frailty of the likes of Tottenham and West Ham. The premier league picture is beginning to develop and it is now that teams must strengthen before the season starts slipping away.

It has been some start to the season for Manchester City captain. At the end of May pundits were beginning to question whether or not he was still able to perform in the Premier League, the Sky Blues were left in Chelsea’s title wake and the Belgian was struggling with injuries. But he has played a pivotal role in the team keeping three clean sheets  to begin 2015-16.

Kompany has never looked fitter and his leadership is vital going forward if City are to challenge for the title. In all three games the captain has been assertive, strong and really given his team potency out of the back with some great passing and general distribution. He has also scored twice this season and is making a nuisance of himself at set pieces, which is something he struggled to do the last time around. The 29-year-old’s presence in this team is vital at both ends of the pitch and it would be a mistake to assume Sergio Aguero holds the key to City’s championship hopes. Should Kompany stay on the park for the entire season it will go a long way to securing City back their crown.
