Former Arsenal and Roma speedster Gervinho has been sent off for new club Hebei China Fortune, after stamping on an opponents testicles in a 1-0 loss to Henan Jianye.

The incident occurred in the 83rd minute with Gervinho’s men trailing after Chen Hao had put the hosts ahead five minutes earlier.

The 29-year-old reacted to a flailing leg from his opponent and directed a carefully placed stamp to the upper thigh region. Referee Zhao Zhizhi was quick on the scene and brandished a red card with little hesitation.

Hebei currently sit fifth in the Chinese Super League, and have been the beneficiaries of considerable investment and now boast the likes of the aforementioned Ivorian, Stephane M’Bia, Ezequiel Lavezzi and Gael Kakuta.

Gervinho has scored three goals in 17 appearances for his new club, but incidents such as this will be sure to draw the ire of his coach and team-mates. The Ivorian was famously sent off on his debut for Arsenal after hitting out at Joey Barton against Newcastle at St James’ Park.
