The biggest rumour in Australian football looks like it might become a distinct reality as soon as tomorrow.

There’s been a significant amount of conjecture regarding the 36-year-old’s future and links to the A-League. However, Outside90 can confirm Ronaldinho, two-time World Player of the Year, is actively pursuing an A-League contract.

His first stint could come in the form of a guest deal for Wollongong Wolves, and subsequent match against Sydney FC in the FFA Cup on August 10.

Wollongong Wolves director, Dean Merola, confirmed exclusively to Outside90 the club has made an offer to acquire the services of the former Brazilian superstar.

“We can confirm we’ve put in an offer,” he said.

“We know he is interested in coming to the A-League as a marquee.”

“We are willing to put him on a platform to show his wares and deadline for a response is tomorrow.”

Wollongong, a club who are trying to seek a passage into the A-League as a new expansion side, are hopeful they can reach an agreement with Ronaldinho in what would be a major coup for Australian football.

“Fingers crossed, it would be a big coup for Wollongong!” Merola said.
